Program Notes
This brief arrangement was written for the University of Texas “Longhorn” Marching Band – of which I was a member at the time of its creation. As near as I can recall, I believe this took place the fall of 1975. I wrote a series of fanfares over the years incorporating existing melodic material; these little works were all intended for outdoor performance by marching forces. The structure of Hill Country Fanfare was the same as the one performed by the Dallas Winds – three phrases, the first two identical but at differing pitch levels and the third an answer to the first two with a tutti chord at the end.
