Program Notes

This edition was made possible by a faculty research grant from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. The score was constructed from an early set of parts (published c. 1810) which were provided by Sir David Whitwell who found them in Vienna in 1968. A few obvious wrong notes were corrected and several discrepancies in articulation, dynamics and phrasings were made consistent.

The work bears the following inscription (in French): "[This] Harmonie is very respectfully dedicated to his Majesty Francois I, Emperor of Austria, by his very humble andvery obedient servant F. Krommer."
