Program Notes

Grizzly Bear Rag began life in 1973 as a ragtime piece for a small jazz ensemble. After several transformations it was published for the Manasquan School Band of New jersey in 1994. The frequently heard trombone glissandi always sounded to the composer like a bear’s growl. Ever since, this rag has paid tribute to the North American grizzly.
