Program Notes
While serving as an arranger and composer with the U.S. Navy Band, Ralph Martino has combined a number of Gershwin’s greatest melodies, including I Got Rhythm, Summertime, and It Ain’t Necessarily So into a brilliant display piece for Dale Underwood and his alto saxophone artistry.
- Program Note from Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music
A Gershwin Fantasy was arranged by Ralph Martino in 1991 for Dale Underwood and the U.S. Navy Band. The arrangement takes several of George Gershwin’s greatest hits and combines them into a medley for saxophone and concert band. The piece was primarily performed on tour with the Navy Band, but was so popular that it has become one of Dale’s signature pieces.
