Program Notes

Fury of the Storm introduces the two main themes played simultaneously at a grandioso tempo. The primary theme is scored in the upper woodwinds, trumpets, and bells, while the secondary theme is scored in the alto saxophones and horns. Following this short introduction, the balance of the work is much quicker and marked “Aggressively.” Both themes are reintroduced separately with supportive counterpoint, but they eventually conjoin again in the final section. A softer and more legato middle episode offers balance to the outside sections.
