Program Notes

Prelude and Fugue in C Minor, BWV 847, is a keyboard composition written by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is the second prelude and fugue in the first book of The Well-Tempered Clavier, a series of 48 preludes and fugues by the composer. The fugue is 31 bars long, and is written for three voices.

  • Dynamics are not provided, as I thought it would be valuable to have students makes those decisions together.
  • Experiment with articulation and ornamentation.
  • Try playing the piece without a conductor at some point.
  • If you have more than one percussionist, have them play one of the SATB parts on mallets.
