François Glorieux
Biography
François Glorieux (b. 27 August 1932, Courtrai, Belgium) is a Belgian composer, conductor, pianist, and teacher.
After studying piano with Marcel Gazelle at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and with Yves Nat in Paris, Glorieux embarked on an international career. He has played all over the world as a soloist with various orchestras and conductors, including André Cluytens.
His particular art is the rare one of improvisation presented in five languages. Glorieux performs all musical styles and has been highly considered by great artists such as André Cluytens, Arthur Rubinstein, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, among many others.
François Glorieux is active as a composer, having written more than 300 works, ranging from solo works to music for chamber or large ensembles. Honored with several decorations and international awards, Glorieux was during nine weeks number one on the “Classical Hit Parade” in Japan and received two golden records. His discography is remarkable, counting more than 40 commercial recordings.
In addition to being a pianist, a composer, a conductor, Glorieux is an honorary professor of chamber music at the Royal Music Conservatory of Ghent, guest professor at Yale University, and director of the International Piano Master Class in Antwerp.
He has also collaborated with the Ballet of the 20th Century, the Royal Ballet of Flanders, the Nederlands Danstheater (The Hague), the Nationaal Ballet (Amsterdam), and has conducted the famous Stan Kenton Band, the Locke Brass Consort of London, the National Symphony Orchestra of Great Britain, the BBC Radio Orchestra, and the Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra (Riga), among others.
Since 1977 he has taught chamber music at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. He is also visiting professor at Yale University in the United States and director of the International Piano Master Class in Antwerp .
