Program Notes

Master Humphrey’s Clock was commissioned by the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra and draws on Dickens’ Kent for inspiration. The Four Character Studies form the last part of the larger work and explore the miscellany of personalities, scenes and colors in the works of Dickens. The four widely contrasting sections comprise studies of Fagin, Nancy and Sairey Gamp, culminating in Bozmania, a joyous and exhilarating fugue which draws together elements of the preceding movements to produce an energetic and dazzling finale.
