Program Notes
"Formosa" is a Portuguese word meaning "beautiful" and is also another name for Taiwan.
This song is a three-part format with Allegro with a 2/4 time signature in the main part and Andante in 6/8 in the middle part. Allegro's lively music of the Yilan folk song of Taiwan, and Andante's somewhat elegant music mixed with the rhythm of the Korean Peninsula creates a rustic East Asian impression.
