Program Notes

This medley of folksongs is equal parts Italian and Irish. The work begins with the well-known Irish folksongs The Girl I Let Behind Me; No One Can Love Like an Irishman; The Galway Piper; and the unmistakable Irish Washerwoman. The arrangement then moves to a slow and reverent treatment of the Italian melody The Fair Maid of Sorrento and closes with the rousing, exciting, and immensely popular Italian folksongs Tarantella and Funiculi, Funicula.

Commissioned by the Springfield Local Schools Band Boosters, Holland, Ohio. In celebration of their band director, Kathleen A. McGrady, for her 33 years of dedication to the profession of music education.
