Program Notes

Flight was originally written for flute trio, but has now been adapted for flexible ensemble. The piece is meant to be played by advanced musicians. Flight depicts the idea of a butterfly flying through a field. At no point does it really land and when it does, it is only briefly.

Performance Notes

For this impression to be successful, the piece is written in ¾ and 6/8 (with a dash of 4/4). The meter is meant to not feel present so as to make the listener a bit uncomfortable, yet excited to see where the final landing point will be. Therefore, no part is really ever in the same meter.
