Program Notes

Finding a Way is a musical depiction of the resiliency of the human spirit. There are times when life presents challenges, and when put to the test, we have to search and find a way to navigate and find peace, or resolve and bounce back. Most often we are able to find resolution and follow sorrow with acceptance, many times with fond remembrance and joy.

Beginning with an unresolved emotion (and motive), Finding a Way travels through many emotions looking for a way to find resolve and comfort. Rather than languishing in a mournful state, it conveys an uplifting and hopeful spirit that ultimately find peace. Once the sense of comfort has been established, an uplifting celebration is apparent. When healing has had a chance to occur, sadness and sorrow can become replaced with delight and excitement of our memories. The piece concludes with a restatement of the opening, questioning motive, but this time with the question answered.
