Program Notes

Fervor was written for traditional British brass band in September 2019 and transcribed for wind band in April 2020.

Fervor is a passion and flame; burning spirit, pride and ego. Fearless of prejudice and attack, the job will get done. Fervor is a description of the innate drive to achieve and accomplish the things which we naturally envision, however may practically be challenged to enact. The things that we so recklessly pursue, even in doubt and resistance, are marked with our fervor: the steadfast and human desire to create. In fervor and flame, life presses on. It is a rogue human’s optimism that fervor wins alone. It is not without calm, it is not without direction and intent. Due deliberation makes drastic change. The doubled fervor of two humans best just one. The feeling is more powerful and more righteous. The feeling is charging forward that much faster and sturdy.
