Program Notes

Based on the famous Tchaikovsky tone poem March Slave originally published in 1876, this setting by David Bobrowitz is a reimagining of the original work that allows younger players to directly experience the magic of the original. Similar to Tchaikovsky’s work, the opening of the Fantasy creates a mysterious aura of shimmering minor key sound. As the piece progresses, the tempo, rhythms, and volume intensify in an excitement curve that mimics the original, but in a shortened time frame.
