Program Notes

Fantasie opus 56 consists of one movement with different characters: 1) Andante maestoso; 2) Sicilienne (allegretto); 3) Andante maestoso (with new elements); 4) Sarabande; 5) Finale (allegro vivace).

Rudolf Koumans composes in a light contemporary idiom with a little nod to Hindemith. In this composition the composer intends a sight-seeing tour through the wonderful colours of the wind orchestra.

This work was commissioned by the SONMO (Dutch National Music Umbrella Wind Music Federation) in 1980.
