Program Notes
Fanfare for Trumpets was composed in 2004 at the request of John Holt for inclusion on a recording of pieces dedicated to John Haynie. The work was premièred by John Holt and Keith Johnson at the University of North Texas on February 23, 2004.
In this work, two sharply articulated trumpet parts compete to occupy the same registral space while pushing and pulling against one another to resolve their harmonic differences. Fanfare for Trumpets may be played at any transposition level by any even number of trumpets (two or more) equally divided at the left and right sides of the performance space.
