Program Notes
Dramatic and sweeping, this work is based on folk music of the Middle East, where the composer lived as a boy. Some of the material is traditional folk music and some is original material created by Dr. Chobanian in the same style. This is a well-balanced three-movement work that uses the entire band to its full effect. Frequent meter changes, double and triple tonguing in the brass will make this work challenging. Percussionists will love the use of unique colors in this exciting composition.
