Program Notes
Ezekiel's Vision was written between October 1978 and February 1979. The title is in reference to the Old Testament prophet Ezekiel.
The piece begins pensively, with a pedal E-flat in the low winds and tubas. The tones of the melodic material are layered and clustered together harmonically. At letter C, the music changes to Allegro, and the melodic material is played in a fanfare within the brass section. The melodic material is then elongated and played over an ostinato pattern alternating between the woodwinds and brass sections. At letter G the music changes to a slower tempo where the melodic material is used within the flute choir. At letter J, the Allegro tempo and fanfare material returns and increases in intensity to the final cadence.
