Program Notes

Broughton’s Excursions, originally written for the U.S. Air Force Band (premiered with soloist Ronald Blais in 1996), has also been transcribed by the composer for brass band. Excursions derives its style from the same wellspring of rhythmic and melodic playfulness from which came his theme music for Tiny Toon Adventures earlier in that decade, encouraging listeners to sing along and/or tap their toes, though the melodies and meters often prove to be deceptively difficult to replicate.
