Program Notes

Excursion, a contemporary piece for woodwind ensemble, includes parts that are fast paced and exciting, while other parts of the piece are more lyrical in order to take the listener on a musical journey.

- Program Note from Texas A&M University Symphonic Band concert program - 25 October 2020

Excursion is defined in the dictionary as 1) A short journey made for pleasure, 2) A group taking a short pleasure trip together and 3) in physics, a movement from and back to a position or axis in an alternating motion. This contemporary piece for woodwind ensemble employs the use of fast, energetic themes and slower, more lyrical sections to take the listener on a musical journey.

This piece was originally written for 12 parts, but at the request of several ensembles, an optional oboe and English horn part have been added.
