Program Notes

The concert overture Entrance of the Tall Ships was composed by James Swearingen in 2001.This mature sounding overture for young band opens with the bold and majestic writing that has made Swearingen’s music so popular with school bands. Following a short slow middle section which allows players the chance to develop phrasing and expression, this piece quickly returns to the original tempo and themes. Sewan Meagher of Epping Middle/High school conducts.
