The work was written in response primarily to the death of George Floyd. It is dedicated to those affected by racial, gender/sexuality, and social bias, and the coronavirus pandemic.

George Perry Floyd Jr. (14 October 1973 – 25 May 2020) was an African-American man killed during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After his death, prolonged protests against police violence toward Black people quickly spread across the United States and internationally.
