Program Notes

This composition, Echoes of Memories, is dedicated to the music teacher at Aizuwakamatsu Kakujo Elementary School upon his transfer to another school. With many years spent together and so many memories, the composition depicts the irrepressible sadness of the students and the aching heart of the teacher as they parted. As reflected in the title, Hokoyama intended to depict feelings of melancholy while images of memories "echoed" forever in each child's heart, especially at a time when children learn to absorb so many feelings. This is a precious musical experience where each performing ensemble can offer a unique musical interpretation.
