Program Notes
This is a great keyboard work, expertly scored. The opening Pavana is noble and dignified, with a tinge of poignant sadness. The contrapuntal texture is simple but effective, and scoring used both choir and tutti sonority. The succeeding Galliard is stately yet rhythmic, with subtle interplay among voices and choirs.
