Program Notes

This five-movement work depicts an exciting journey into space, from blast off to a safe return home! Fanfare and March to the Launching Pad presents a noble, dignified opening; Lift Off includes a spoken countdown and rising melodic line; leading to Orbit, a soft, floating 3/4 (with optional flute and clarinet solos). Space Walk sets a new mood, accented and detached; and finally Re-entry and Celebration begins slow and pensive and builds to a restatement of the original theme.
