Program Notes
The Dance of the Knights takes place in Scene 2 "Capulet's Ball" of Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet. This first-ever symphonic wind band edition of this profound 20th-century work was created by Nathan Jones. The masterful scoring faithfully captures the magic of the original orchestration, which has been heard in numerous films and TV shows.
- Program Note adapted from publisher
Montagues and Capulets, also known as Dance of the Knights, is a work of classical music written by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. The piece is the first one in the Suite No. 2 from Romeo and Juliet, Op. 64ter, which consists of two parts from his 1935 ballet Romeo and Juliet. He wrote versions for both orchestra and piano.
Dance of Knights is the nickname of the second movement of the work. This name stems not from composer, and probably derives from background of the work.
