Program Notes

I was first introduced to Spanish and Latin-American music by my father. I grew up listening to him play all sorts of Spanish and Latin tunes, so those rhythms are firmly embedded in my mind. While Dance Suite on Spanish and Latin Rhythms is inspired by these rhythms, all the material is entirely original. The Dance Suite is dedicated to COL Lowell E. Graham and the Heritage of America Band.

This three-movement work contrasts Latin-American and Spanish musical elements. The first movement features the piccolo trumpet in Spanish bravura music. The second movement conveys a variety of moods ranging from tango-like rhythms.
