Program Notes

Taking the old favorite country tune, New River Train, Spears produces a lighthearted, exciting piece for young band. Opens with the percussion section and hand-clapping imitating an old steam engine getting underway. The band continues in a blues/gospel setting leading eventually to a country/swing section that will bring the audience to their feet.

The Country Express was commissioned and dedicated to the Clinton Tennessee High School Bands, D. Stanley Barnes, director.
