Program Notes

The Concerto for Marimba and Wind Ensemble was a joint commission from the University of Kansas and the Philharmonic Winds of Singapore for John Lynch and Kevin Bobo.

The two contrasting movements of the concerto feature the unique sounds of smaller instrumental combinations within the ensemble, such as double reed quartets, tuba/euphonium consorts and the clarinet choir. The nuances of instrumental color throughout are designed to accentuate the woody quality of the marimba.
