Program Notes
This concerto is a theme and variations, cast in three movements, each variation featuring individual instruments or instrumental families. The theme – Country Gardens -- is not given at the beginning, but at the end, in a grandiose finale. The original design is for single instruments, but the usual doublings can be made if care is taken with balance.
