Program Notes
The composer's intention was to create a readily comprehensible, uncomplicated and jovial piece for this fascinating instrument. At the same time he wanted to refute the old prejudice that the tuba was a clumsy monster suitable only for march music. Especially the second movement proves how expressive and lyrical this adaptable instrument is.
