Program Notes

Concertino for Timpani by Michael Colgrass combines the forces of an orchestral brass and percussion section, highlighting the timpanist throughout.

Colgrass's musical language is largely dark and dissonant, particularly when the energy picks up. This piece is split into three distinct movements.
