Program Notes

Club Europe (Tour for Band) was commissioned in 2002 by Club Europe Concert Tours for the Belgian Young Bands Festival and Italian Young Bands Festival for a work suitable for performance by intermediate youth bands. The work is intended to be a warm hearted and thoroughly positive concert overture without a hint of bombasity or pretension. The composer imagined himself looking out of a tour bus window at various stages of a European holiday and reflecting in musical terms on the sights and experiences he both saw and imagined. This joie de vivre overture takes time in the central slow section to reflect on other, somewhat more pastoral, qualities observed on such a trip.
