Program Notes

Caccia for Band is the composer’s transcription of the third movement of his Diversions for Piano, a set of five pieces written in 1975. An animated work in alla breve (2/2 time) Caccia for Band presents an opportunity to teach players about the caccia form. Short fanfare figures are treated to harmonic and melodic imitation and the harmonies are based on fourths, although Dello Joio frequently uses ninth, eleventh, and thirteenth chord structures.
