Program Notes
Brothers, We Must Part is a setting of the traditional American folk song Meeting Is Over. This work was written to honor the near-simultaneous retirements of Kirt Saville and Donald Peterson from the wind program at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. Arranger Chris Nelson had been a student of both conductors.
The composition contains brief solos for clarinet (intended to be played by Saville) and trumpet (to be played by Peterson).
