Program Notes
This well-known Ravel classic is a study in orchestration as it gradually builds intensity from the quiet opening to the powerful and explosive finish. Jay does a masterful job of adapting this work for concert band using solos for clarinet, flute and trumpet and skillful use of the entire ensemble.
- Program Note from publisher
Boléro is a one-movement orchestral piece by the French composer Maurice Ravel (1875–1937). Originally composed as a ballet commissioned by Russian actress and dancer Ida Rubinstein, the piece, which premiered in 1928, is Ravel's most famous composition.
