Program Notes

Composer Fred Huffer, noted for his 30 fine marches, dedicated Black Jack to General John “Black Jack” Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. Congress later awarded Pershing the unique rank of General of the Armies of the United States.
