Program Notes

This piece includes playful melodies, achievable chromaticism, and colorful orchestration (including the use of buzzing mouthpieces and/or mutes for brass), along with careful attention to rhythmic vocabulary and range. It also contains nods to Rimsky-Korsakov, Khachaturian, and uses the folk song The Baby Bumble Bee Song, This movement stands on its own, or may be combined with Frogs, March of the Arachnids, and Flowers to present a large-scale work for young ensembles.
