Program Notes

An impressive setting of a beloved hymn that is not only a wonderful "change of pace" concert selection, it is also an outstanding composition for teaching expressive performance practices. Expressive, yet reverent, the introduction of this work leads into a lovely flute solo followed by a bold and glorious rendition of one of the most celebrated hymns of all time. As one would expect from this popular composer, the lush harmonies and tasteful scoring give it a sound that is quite impressive.

Beautiful Savior was commissioned by alumni of Newton High School, Pleasant, Ohio and Troy High School, Troy, Ohio and dedicated to Donald E. Jenkins for his 35 years of outstanding service to music education.
