Program Notes

Based on a theme from volume I, no. 3, Andante, from Bartok's piano collection For Children, this is an intriguing and compelling set of variations. The three variations focus upon various features of the melody, harmony,, and rhythm of the theme and its accompaniment. Broege's reflection on this Eastern European melody captures the spirit and essence of Bartok's original piano work.
