Program Notes

The concept for this work is experimental in nature. The title of the work, BOOM!, describes the sudden loud bass drum hits in several parts of the piece. After hearing the musical "boom," the trumpet section reacts with an array of fast-moving cluster chords. The work represents a different kind of fanfare, one that moves through different sound concepts, changing meters, and fun syncopated figures.

This work was premiered on February 2, 2020, by the Florida State University Wind Orchestra Brass and Percussion. The work is dedicated to my teacher and mentor, Professor Richard Clary.
