Program Notes
No one feature of the Lorraine landscape dominates this simple portrayal of personal impressions; rather, it is a composite picture. First, the Meuse River slowly bending its way across the broad green prairies of Northeastern France; then, the wide valley which cuts between a framework of high, wooded hills. Looking dreamily upon this inspiring view, Balay painted a musical picture of perfect peace and contentment.
