Program Notes

This composition was written at the request of the symphonic wind band Na Lang Streven from Klaaswaal [South Holland], to celebrate their 100th anniversary. As a starting point the English translation of the book Atlas of Remote Island was used. This is the story of fifty remote islands around the world where fantasy and reality go hand in hand. Composer Harrie Janssen selected four of the islands to create his four-part composition.

The work received its premiere performance 1 February 2014 by the Symphonic Wind band 'Na Lang Streven' Klaaswaal.
