Program Notes

This short suite is a collection of three well-known folk songs from American folk literature. Arkansas Traveler is "Moderately fast." The melody is introduced by solo flute. The more cantabile Sweet Betsy from Pike is marked "in a fast three," while the concluding folk song, a rousing version of Turkey in the Straw, is marked "Moderately fast."
