Program Notes

As in the first two American Folk Rhapsodies, Grundman’s purpose here was to give a fresh and interesting treatment to some familiar, yet not hackneyed, American songs— songs that have persisted through our history as a nation, and which have improved with age. Included are Colorado Trail: Git Along Little Dogies, the poignant ballad Careless Love, and the lively and more familiar classic barndance tune Turkey in the Straw. The rhapsody closes with a reprise of Careless Love interspersed with other songs.
