Program Notes

Sousa said, "A march should make a man with a wooden leg step out," and Henry Fillmore's America Exultant is exactly the kind of march he had in mind. Trombones are featured throughout, along with a trumpet-and-drum motif and a woodwind obbligato. The very unique trio is based on America, to complete the patriotic feeling.

Fillmore originally wrote this work under the pseudonym Al Hayes.
