Program Notes

The music of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story is timeless and remains as popular as ever. This skillfully arranged version has carefully preserved the mixed-meter rhythmic fire and flavor of the original.

- Program Note from publisher

Leonard Bernstein composed West Side Story in 1957, and it has since made its way into the hearts of most American Broadway lovers. Using the legendary score by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephan Sondheim, America is the pro-American anthem of the Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang. The lyrics of the original Broadway production highlight the positive qualities of American life as seen through the eyes of a recent immigrant.
