Program Notes

This concert march is dedicated to the 509th Airborne Infantry. In addition to the core symphonic band, it also calls for "Antiphonal Herald Trumpets", which is written for three fanfare trumpets and three fanfare trombones.

- Program Note from publisher

Colonel Allen completed All the Way March in time so that it could begin the United State Army Band concert at the April, 1980, Music Educators National Conference in Miami, Florida. The march is dedicated to the 509th Airborne Infantry, which uses "All the Way" as its motto; it was written specifically for Lieutenant Colonel Ward LeHardy, the commander of the 509th's 1st battalion at the time. Allen's ability to write pleasing melodies and his knowledge of all the instruments of the band are evident from the introduction to the final chord. The optional fanfare part, combined with a florid woodwind obbligato and a fortissimo melody in the final strain, help keep the listener airborne "all the way!"
