Program Notes

Aerials, by the Sibelius Academy’s professor of conducting orchestral training Atso Almila, was commissioned by Finnish clarinetist and conductor Tanja Räsänen for her diploma concert program when she graduated from the Sibelius Academy wind band conducting class in April 2014.

According to Atso Almila, Aerials could interpret any kinds of aerial signals or maybe even aerial acrobatics. He specifies: "For me aerials are partly the tram wires of the Helsinki of my childhood, and though I don’t want to over-specify its meaning, I do feel the movements and singing of birds in this piece too.”
