Program Notes

Featuring rich sonorities in the low register and a flowing lyric style throughout, this classic composition by Elliot Del Borgo has stood the test of time and currently appears on contest lists in 10 different states.

- Program Note from publisher

Although not as expansive and powerful as Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, Del Borgo's use of wind instruments to create beauty and sensitivity makes this work an important one in wind band literature. Adagio for Winds is in the harmonic and melodic framework of the Romantic era, with song-like melodic lines prominently set within a simple uncluttered accompaniment. This piece moves slowly, and gently builds to a climax toward the end before coming to a quiet close.

- Program Note by William V. Johnson for the Cuesta Wind Ensemble concert program, 8 May 1993
